British Australian Open hopefuls Cam Norrie and Jack Draper into semi-finals

Great British number one Cameron Norrie and Jack Draper progressed even further in their retrospective competitions in the warm-up to the Australian Open.

Norrie, who is currently ranked number 11 in the world, opponent Marcos Giron 6-1 6-7 (5-7) 6-2 in Auckland, New Zealand. His opponent in the last four will be against another American Jenson Brooksby.

Fellow Brit Draper will face Kwon Soon-woo in the semi-finals in Adelaide after beating Russian Karen Khachanov.

Draper, 21, has been drawn against defending champion Rafael Nadal on his Australian Open debut and claimed his Adelaide International 2 quarter-final in convincing fashion winning, beating third seed Khachanov 6-4 7-6 (7-3).

Also in the world of tennis, former world number one and current British number four Andy Murray, beat Australian Alex de Minaur 6-3 6-3 at the Kooyong Classic Exhibition event in Melbourne.

Scotsman Murray will participate in next month’s Australian Open and has said that he has “no timeframe” on retirement despite circulating questions about his future in the sport.

The tournament will take place between 16 and 29th January, starting off the Grand Slam season.
