Bishops Cleeve searching for answers after a ‘difficult’ period

‘Football is cruel.’

Was one of the first lines from Paul Colicutt after his side were defeated 4-0 at home against Dorchester Town in the Southern League, South division on Tuesday.

‘If we had stayed there all night we wouldn’t have scored.’

A promising opening 10 minutes saw an opportunity to lead from the sport after being awarded a penalty, however Jake Lee was unable to convert.

However, Colicutt was quick to say he felt the scoreline wasn’t a ‘fair picture of the game’. There were numerous chances for the home side, but the execution was unable to be found.

The result leaves Bishops Cleeve in eight with four wins and four losses raising question marks over their recent performances.

‘We have been showing signs of good football, we just have to stop conceding its as simple as that.’

Experienced midfielder Steve Davis also spoke after the game and was vocal on his frustrations but was keen to look ahead to what’s next.

‘It’s hard to be proud, the reality is we have to be more ruthless, but we just have to try and turn it around.’

Cleeve face Hartpury on Tuesday the 10th of November, allowing further training sessions this weekend which Colicutt is positive will motivate his squad.

‘I’ve got to get the players fit and competing ready for Tuesday, football is cruel and you can’t take things for granted.’

If he makes an appearance on Tuesday, Davis will mark his 200th appearance for his side after first debuting for the club in 2019.

‘If I can reach that milestone of 200 it would mean an awful lot for me, but more importantly I hope it’s topped off with three points on Tuesday.
