New release of Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man causes UK sell out

With the new release of Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, cinemas are selling out and fans are getting excited. The Peaky Blinders world is opening up to all with no link to the past 6 seasons. “You can come to the movie without ever seeing the series and still get it and hopefully love it,” creator Steven Knight said.

Set in the 1940s, the film focuses on Tommy Shelby during the Birmingham Blitz in World War Two. “He can’t get to be more of a good guy than that,” Peter Bradshaw expressed in the Guardian’s review of the film.

The incredible cast has created a buzz with fans and beyond. The one and only Cillian Murphy resumes his role as Tommy Shelby along with new additions of Oscar nominee Barry Keoghan, Mission: Impossible’s Rebecca Ferguson and Reservoir Dogs actor Tim Roth.

Cinemas across the UK are screening Peaky Blinders: Immortal man starting this weekend, across more than 100 locations. However, it is only available to view in selected cinemas including 32 Everyman sites, 17 Picturehouses, 16 Showcase locations and 13 Curzons.

If you aren’t able to get to the cinema don’t worry. Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man will be released on Netflix on Friday 20th March.

Everyman Cinema in Cheltenham is one of the cinemas playing the new film and has already sold out on release. Even staff are being encouraged to dress up and immerse themselves in the launch.

While the story of Peaky Blinders is centred around the streets of Birmingham, the show has several interesting links to Cheltenham and the wider Gloucestershire area. One of the notable moments in Series 1 Episode 3, saw the Shelby family attending the famous Cheltenham Festival horse races, bringing the town’s long-standing racing culture into the gritty world of the show.

Cheltenham talent has also played a role in bringing the Shelby world to life. Local Cheltenham actor Kieran Mortell portrays Arthur Shelby in an immersive Peaky Blinders theatre experience, allowing fans to step directly into the atmosphere of the show and interact with characters from the Shelby family.

Productions like this have helped keep the Peaky Blinders legacy alive beyond television, giving audiences a chance to experience the drama up close.

As the Shelby story jumps from television to the big screen with Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, Cheltenham’s own links to the world of Peaky Blinders show how far the legacy of the Shelby family has travelled. From the streets of Birmingham to racecourses, stages and cinemas across the UK.
