After the last four weeks being forced to the sideline, the Cheltenham defender Ibrahim Bakare is close to return and hopes to be involved in the game against Colchester United on Saturday after training all week with the team.
Fans are excited by the recent news that Bakare may appear this Saturday, with fans wanting him back into the starting lineup. Bakare suffered a knee injury in the League Two match vs Chesterfield on September 21.
Since his injury, Cheltenham have won one of their last four and conceded seven. There has been a major defensive issue that needs to be identified within the Robins.
“I think that’s probably the most important part of our game, and that’s what we have been working on in training and bringing back the man-to-man defending and making sure we are marking well, make sure we have the sturdiness around us because its league two and the game is up and down and the game is all over the place sometimes.
“It’s frustrating to look at from the stands knowing I can make a positive difference to the team, but I am excited to get back.
“I’ve been in training all week and I am trying to ease myself back in and not to overload my knee and work the muscles around it.”
Colchester United are coming into the contest unbeaten at home in their last four. The U’s have had very strong form at home this season, so it will be tough for Cheltenham to get the win, especially with the forward line that Colchester have.
“We are all equal until the end of the game and you start the game 0-0 but in regards to players like that (Lyle Taylor) you know they have played at higher levels.
“You have to respect that they have played at a higher level and be able to say this player has certain qualities that have allowed them to play at a certain level so being able to respect that but also imposing themselves onto them nice and early to hopefully make us deal with the game better.
“So as long as you can defend and keep a clean sheet you have half a chance to win a game and we need to start that from this Saturday and build on and climb our way up the table.”
The game is at 3 pm on Saturday, October 19 at the JobServe Community Stadium. Cheltenham are looking to get their first win in three, and Colchester are looking to make it five in a row unbeaten at home.
