Forest Green Rovers Women take on Bridgwater United for a second successive year in the Adobe WFA Cup at Hartpury University on Sunday afternoon.
Bridgwater United are a division above FGR as they play their football in the Division One South West, compared to the Regional League that Forest Green play in.
The Robins won the contest last year 3-0 but this time round, captain Hattie Jones believes Forest Green stand in a much better stead than last season.
“Last year we were good. This year we are better. We have depth in our squad that we didn’t last year. Across the pitch we have strength, we know our game plan and we know we can execute it,” Jones said.
“I missed last year’s game through injury, but I could see watching from the sidelines how close the girls were to getting the win.”
The attacking midfielder has already scored two league goals this season in only three games, one of which came at The New Lawn with a stunning first touch left-footed curler from the edge of the box.
Rovers have started the season perfectly, not dropping a single point in four league fixtures and progressing through the previous round of the WFA Cup with a 6-1 win away at Frampton Rangers who play in the same league as Forest Green.
Jones further explained: “As a team, we know the priority is the league, but I think at this stage of the season we are playing to win every game – so regardless of the competition we want to win.”
Forest Green have had a two week break since their 1-0 home victory over title-rivals Marine Academy Plymouth.
Bridgwater United lost 3-1 against Worthing last Sunday in the league, dropping them down to eighth, winning only two from seven.
Finally Jones added: “I don’t think we have anything to lose by going into Sunday looking for anything less than a win.”
