“The only team I’m afraid of is ourselves” – Bishops Cleeve manager Paul Collicutt ahead of his side’s clash with Bashley

Bishops Cleeve manager, Paul Collicutt, is looking for his team to turn up when they face Bashley on Saturday saying, “If we’re up for it we can beat anyone.”

Being an experienced non-league manager, Collicutt knows how tricky it can be to string together a good run of form at this level.

“The thing you learn from football, especially at this level, is you never know what will happen, if you turn up and you’re up for it you can beat anyone.

“But if you’re not up for it then you can very easily lose any game, I always say the only team I’m afraid of is ourselves.”

Collicutt discussed his team’s form recently: “It’s a building process, we keep doing little bits and we’ve got an improved squad from last year.”

The Mitres are unbeaten in three games in all competitions and have four wins and three draws in their opening 10 league games this season.

The ex-Cheltenham Town captain says he’s not necessarily happy with the amount of draws so far this campaign.

“We’ve had a lot of draws this season, to me I’d rather win one and lose a couple than draw that many games.”

In their recent three-game unbeaten run, Cleeve have netted nine goals only conceding three and Collicutt has heralded their new signing for tightening up the backline.

“Since Josh Nelmes came in we’ve only conceded twice, he’s a great lad on the pitch her organises everyone and he’s brilliant off the pitch in the changing room.”

Cleeve’s opponents, Bashley, haven’t played a full 90 minutes in three weeks after their match away to Paulton Rovers was abandoned due to weather and their home game last week was postponed.

Collicutt doesn’t believe his side should be expecting any rust from the Bashley players though, “It’s a bit of a banana skin, it’s about turning up on the day like I said earlier.

“They beat Frome who are one of the best teams in this division so they’re a good side and it will be a tough game.”

The game will be played at Kayte Lane on Saturday, November 11 kicking off at 3pm.
