Biden faces ridicule after comparing MLK and George Floyd

A video of President Joe Biden, has provoked ridicule as the world celebrated Martin Luther King Day.

In June 2020, Biden, made comments at an economic reopening in Philadelphia, soon after George Floyds death.

Biden told the roundtable “Even Dr. King’s assassination did not have the worldwide impact that George Floyd’s death did.”

People have jumped to twitter to share their thoughts on the comment, with one saying “Comparing George Floyd to the memory of Dr. King is insulting”, while another added “George Floyd was not a civil rights leader”.

Troy Harrison, a student from the University of Gloucestershire, feels that politicians have become “tone deaf”.

“It’s upsetting that black people are only influential when they die and that you need death to spark conversation”.

The 20-year-old added “People in power need to do their research when discussing influential black people and how they’ve affected minorities. It felt like Biden was saying George Floyd was the only influential black person in the last twenty years”.
