Big Bash League: Strikers win to make the final

Adelaide Strikers beat the Melbourne Renegades in the second semi-final by one run in an exciting encounter.

The Strikers won the toss and decided to bat first.

They got off to a good start with Jono Dean and Jake Weatherald, but Dean fell to Chris Tremain for 19.

Weatherald and new batsman Travis Head built a partnership for the second wicket.

Both batsmen went on to get half centuries, but shortly later, Weatherald fell for 57 off Kieron Pollard.

Glamorgan batsman Colin Ingram came in next but was almost immediately back at the dugout for just one run.

The next two batsmen did similarly and all got out for single digit scores.

Whilst wickets were falling around him, Travis Head continued to bat along and ended the innings on 85* alongside Michael Neser who was not out on four.

The Strikers finished on 178/5, leaving the Renegades needing 179 to win and go to the final.

The Renegades’ innings started well also, however they lost an early wicket in Cameron White.

Marcus Harris was speeding along to 45 until he was out to Head.

This bought Tim Ludeman and Tom Cooper together who put on a bit of a partnership before Ludeman hit Kahn straight to Jake Lehmann.

Dwayne Bravo, a West Indian international, was next in and made a quick 26 alongside Cooper who was slowly going along playing the supporting role.

At the end, it was Pollard and Cooper.

13 needed from the last over. The tension was rising. Then the end came to a brilliant advertisement of T20 cricket. The Strikers won by one run and go through to the final.

The Big Bash final will be contested between The Adelaide Strikers and Hobart Hurricanes on Sunday with the venue yet to be decided.
