West Brom Women will kick off their Women’s FA Cup campaign at home to Lye Town Ladies at the Academy Ground on Sunday afternoon.
West Brom will be looking to regain some positive form after back-to-back losses in the previous two weeks.
The Baggies have experienced a mixed bag of results in the opening three months of the season currently sitting one place and four points above the drop zone after eight league games.
They were unfortunate to lose on Sunday and battled well away at league leaders Burnley and deserved to take something from the game, so manager Siobhan Hodgetts-Still will be hoping for more of the same on Sunday.
On the contrary, Lye have flown out of the blocks in the West Midlands Regional Women’s Football League, and see themselves top of the table after six games having not lost a game.
In their two qualifying rounds, Lye beat Hereford Pegasus, 6-1 and St Joseph’s Rockware of Worksop, 3-0 to reach the first round proper.
In last year’s competition, West Brom made it to the fourth round before losing 7-0 to Brighton & Hove Albion from the Women’s Super League.
On the way they swept aside Crewe Alexandra, 4-0, Lichfield City, 8-0 and Liverpool Feds 3-2 before their heavy loss to the Seagulls, who play two divisions higher.
Lye’s FA Cup journey ended at this hurdle in 2022-23 falling 4-1 to Wem Town and will be hoping to cause an upset and advance further than they did twelve months ago.
West Brom forward Delphi Cole said: “We’ve got to go into it with confidence in order to get the win” while speaking to the club’s media team.
