“We’re looking to put a stamp on this season”- Cheltenham Town Women’s manager Tom Davies on his side’s unbeaten run and local derby vs Swindon Town Women

Cheltenham Town Women manager Tom Davies has said progressing into the quarter-final of the FAWNL Cup would be “a huge marker of where we’re at”.

After reaching the final of the FAWNL Plate last season, the sister competition of the league cup, Cheltenham have reached the last 16 of the competition for the first time in their history, after reaching the round of 32 in 2018.

The Robinesses travel to tier four side Swindon Town on Sunday, a team unbeaten all season.

“It’s a huge month in terms of the five games we’ve got, three competitions, we’re looking to put a stamp on this season by winning competitive games in terms of football.

“To get to the last eight of a competition like this considering we’ve never really been in it before, we’ve always been in the Plate and worked our way through that. To be in the last eight in the ‘premium competition’ if you like, would be a huge marker of where we’re at, and the things that we’re doing, alongside the other records and achievements we’ve achieved over the last few years.”

“It would be a huge marker of where we’re at, we’re not getting ahead of ourselves, and we’re not predicting that we’re going to do that, but ultimately that is the aim.

Richard Wood’s side sit top of Division One Southwest, five points clear of second-placed Moneyfields.

In both the league and Cup, the hosts have won all games played so far, including against the likes of Gwalia United, Bristol City PGA and Keynsham Town in Group C. A 2-0 win over Actonians Ladies followed in the round of 32.

“They’re a very confident side, a side that are 15, or 16 unbeaten, and 15,16 wins, so a side who understand how to win games” Davies said

“They’re a very confident side, a very competent side, there’s a lot of very good players that we know and know of. But our objective is exactly the same as it always is, to be the best version of ourselves, to go and play, and enjoy playing. We’re excited to go and put on a performance.”

Cheltenham themselves are five games unbeaten in all competitions, beating the likes of AFC Wimbledon and Lewes in the league, before winning against Millwall Lionesses and Southampton PGA in both the FA Cup and the League Cup.

Like their opponents, they topped Group F, winning comfortably against Worcester City, Birmingham City PGA and Kidderminster Harriers.

“It’s nice. You notice the change in camp. It’s a natural sort of skip in the step if you like.

“It’s important because we want to keep winning games of football, and that’s where we want to be at, and we recognise that for all of those games we’ve had to work hard, we’ve had different challenges, different types of wins. We’re showing different sides of our game, we’re being adaptable, long may that continue.”
