University of Gloucestershire Women’s Rugby thump Southampton University 94-0

The University of Gloucestershire’s women’s rugby team hammered Southampton University 94-0 in their latest BUCS fixture.

Outside centre Enya Lackie stole the show with five tries as UOG proved too much to handle for the home side at the Sports Ground.

Scrum-half Tess Cleave scored the visitor’s first try, with Frances Fox doubling their lead shortly after.

Then, a flurry of scores helped Gloucestershire to a remarkable 49-0 half-time lead, with Gav Deane providing a seemingly inspirational team talk in the break.

The away team continued their dominance into the second half, as Lackie completed her hat-trick and added two more tries to an already incredible display before the final whistle.

Though UOG’s kicking was equally impressive as their try-scoring in the match, with Evie Trafford’s two conversions and Madi Williams’ five contributing to the overwhelming score line.

That said, while she maintained the team were excellent as a whole, Lackie was, without doubt, the star performer on the day.

”We came into the match thinking that it’ll be a bit of a wonky Wednesday,” she told uogjmag.co.uk.

”We had no subs and people were playing out of their usual positions, but actually we smashed it! I think the whole game was a lot of fun and that helped with the score line because there was no pressure.

”After last weekend, where Bath pulled out of the cup game and decided to reschedule (next week) at 17-17, it really was the boost that we needed to go into next week.

”As a team, we didn’t decide on a man of the match because everyone played so brilliantly! I was really proud of everyone! Plus I got a sneaky 5 tries over the line so I’ll take that!”
