UDA Soccer triumph in Gloucestershire derby as the new BUCS season gets underway

UDA Soccer dismissed University of Gloucestershire’s Fifth team 7-0 in the opening week of the BUCS football season, in what was a statement performance from the International Students.

It has been a tough start to the new season for University of Gloucestershire’s fifth team. Starting with a heavy pre-season defeat to Oxford Brookes fourth’s resulting in a 11-0 loss, and a poor start to the new season to their Gloucestershire rivals.

Gloucestershire centre back, Kieran Templeton, stated that the performance was ‘just not good enough.’

‘First 20 minutes we looked good, and held a good shape, but then we began to run out of steam and lost that momentum, which led to sloppy passing and constantly forcing the long ball which was not working, and arguably costed us the first couple of goals.’

Templeton came on just after half-time, when the score was 6-0 and was told to keep the discipline and ‘win the second half.’

‘Well the aim was to not concede anymore really, but also try and get some goals back and at least be the better team in the second half.’

Gloucestershire attacker, Josh Pike, also shared his views on the disappointing result, despite being forced off late in the first half with a foot injury.

‘We gave up too easily today and that cannot happen again. We don’t need to panic on the ball and I feel like we were playing too many long balls, and the opponents caught onto it.

‘It was a difficult pitch, but that is no excuse. If we just hold the ball and communicate a lot more on the pitch then we will be far better in our next game.’

Both players were asked what the aims are for the team, on what is going to be a challenging season ahead for them with both outlining similar targets:

‘It’s simple really, just do not lose. We need to keep our heads up you know, it is a long season, so if we continue to train hard together we will improve as a team and hopefully that will reflect onto match day.

Gloucestershire fifths travel to Swansea, who picked up a point in the opening match week in a stalemate 2-2 draw with Gloucestershire’s third team, and will be looking for an instant response to the opening day blues and get their season officially underway.
