‘They will be an unknown entity ahead of Saturday’ – Cambridge United boss Mark Bonner ahead of Cheltenham Town away

In a press conference on Thursday night, Mark Bonner gave his thoughts ahead of the game at the Completely-Suzuki Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

First Bonner was asked about switching things up at Cheltenham after saying, ”At Cheltenham we’re going to do things a little differently’ in his press conference after the 2-1 loss to Colchester in the EFL trophy.

He responded, stating that,

‘I wouldn’t expect revelations of complete difference, but we know we’re in a batch of games now Cheltenham, Portsmouth, Carlisle, and then Wycombe that’s 4 games in quick succession where we won’t be able to play the same 11 in all four games so the games could look quite different. The last couple of games we’ve played have been fairly similar but we’re going into a batch of games where one game to the next looks slightly different and our approach to it might need to be slightly different as well.”

The 2-1 loss against Colchester was a negative result for Cambridge, but Bonner was able to highlight the positives in helping him with squad depth and team selection,

”The good thing about Tuesday was it gave a lot of players time to build up game minutes, knowing that over the next four games, we’ll definitely need some of those.”

After the disappointment of Tuesday night Bonner will need all of his key players back ready for the clash with Cheltenham on Saturday, in particular Kaikai, who was on international duty for Sierra Leone in the past week.

“He’s had a busy weekend luckily it wasn’t too far away – he was in Morocco. He flew back last night Wednesday evening to London. He played big mins in 1st game, and 30 mins in the second game so the order of these games has probably helped us. It means that he is not burnt out really so it’s just how he feels and how he copes, certainly one we hope that can contribute for us for sure”.
