Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty Show & what it means for diversity in fashion (Review)

A gigantic pink lotus flower slowly opens its heavy leaves as they drop dramatically to the floor, who else could be posing inside but Rihanna, of course. Draped in a floral scarf accompanied by a luscious purple silk lingerie set; this is the introduction we all expected from the new queen of style. Miss Rihanna Fenty is back and she’s better than ever as she serves us a new dish of hot new fashion in all shapes and sizes.

Now lets take a moment to highlight Miss Fenty’s success: she’s the youngest solo artist to score 14 no. 1 singles and has sold more than 54 million albums worldwide. Although she shocked the music world, Rihanna has moved onto fashion and beauty in recent years and I’m here for it.

We all know the singer-turned-business mogul doesn’t shy away from inclusivity, which I respect her most for. In 2017 she dropped her Fenty Beauty line, revealing her wide range of foundation colours which embraced darker colours. Well she’s at it again with her newest Savage X Fenty lingerie line which has been applauded online for featuring plus-sized male and female models and encouraging body image positivity.

The star-studded banger of a show had Rihanna’s A-list celeb buddies wearing her new luxury lingerie, just so you know how many famous friends she has. The likes of Lizzo, Willow Smith and Paris Hilton were modelling the new line, with Miguel and Big Sean giving performances.

The 32-year-old told Vogue how “There are a lot of moving parts, and we wanted to make sure everyone was healthy, first and foremost,” further explaining “With the global pandemic, it’s tough, but we’re tough cookies, and we love a challenge!”

The new lingerie line offers some gorgeous bright colours which pop on any skin tone, as seen from the models in many different shades. The option for plus sizing also shows an embrace and celebration for all body types, breaking down the stereotype that has been in lingerie branding for so, so long now. How many plus sized models have you seen in lingerie in the last few years? The answer is probably not enough- so well done to Rihanna.

Floral lacey bras and bralette sets to g-strings and thongs, Rihanna is providing all you could think of when it comes to treating yourself to a new lingerie piece. Or if that’s not your thing, there are even your average t-shirt bras or an embroidered lace corset; there’s something for everyone and that’s what matters most- Rihanna seems to know how to make you feel included.

Not only are all sizes and colours accepted, in what seems like a first in lingerie fashion lines, Rihanna is giving men something sexy to wear in the bedroom, too. Stylish boxers, satin trousers and a bedroom jacket, this new line seems to bring a mix of both sleek sexy style as well as luxury comfort.

As Rihanna keeps bringing us what we all want, which is to feel accepted in fashion, we will keep watching out for what she brings us next. As for other brands, well, take notes.
