PREVIEW: Whitehawk FC v Gloucester City

Gloucester City are looking to make it five games unbeaten as they come up against Whitehawk this weekend.

The Tigers secured their third win on the bounce with a 2-1 victory over Wealdstone, and their recent good form has taken City to 15th in the National League South, eight points above the relegation zone.

Marc Richards was forced into a number of changes for that match, with the postponed winter games leading to a congested fixture list, and the Tigers’ manager could rest players ahead of a challenging game against Havant and Waterlooville, who are currently second.

Karnell Chambers was one of those rested against Wealdstone, and the midfielder, who already has five goals this season,  is expected to return to the side this weekend, whilst Joe Hanks impressed Richards and could be in line for another start.

However, Monday’s first goalscorer Harry Williams went off injured after scoring his first of the season, and his injury will be assessed ahead of the game.

If results go their way on Saturday, City could rise above Eastbourne Borough and East Thurrock to 13th, however the latter have a game in hand on the Tigers.

Meanwhile Whitehawk sit bottom, 13 points adrift of safety, but their survival hopes have been boosted by a recent run of good form, losing just once in their last eight games in the league.

Ky Marsh-Brown has been absent since scoring a hat-trick in their emphatic 5-1 win against Weston-super-Mare, and if he does return to face the Tigers he will be real goal threat, and will ensure James Hamon has plenty to do.

Gloucester took all three points last time the two sides met, with goals from Joe Parker, Chambers and Chris Knowles ensuring a 3-1 victory despite Enoch Andoh’s consolation goal.

Gloucester won’t come into this game expecting an easy ride, as Whitehawk’s results appear to have improved despite relegation seeming imminent, but a positive result for the Tigers could signal a push for a top half finish.
