Preview: Bishops Cleeve manager Paul Collicutt and captain Ross Langworthy look ahead to bottom-placed Tavistock

Bishops Cleeve are looking to bounce back from their 4-0 defeat to Frome last weekend with a trip to bottom of the league Tavistock AFC this weekend.

Cleeve only sit five points outside of the play-off spots, but a poor run of form means that they have only won two out of their last seven league outings.

Tavistock, on the other hand, are bottom of the league, placed 22nd with only three wins in 30 games. The closest team to them are Bashley in 21st, but there’s a significant 13 points between them.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s clash, Mitres manager Paul Collicutt was very clear in what he wanted to see in terms of change from his Bishops Cleeve side.

“I’m looking first to work our socks off for 90 minutes, ‘cause I didn’t see that against Tavistock.

“I didn’t see it at all, and it was a bad, bad performance, especially in the first 45.”

Captain Ross Langworthy, who’s leading the Cleeve goalscoring charts with 18 to his name so far this season, has similar plans.

“We’re going to have to go there and battle, and win the battle first. Hopefully, we’ll make sure we do everything better than we did at Tavistock. We have to bounce back and pick up three points next week.”

Talking about him and his teammates’ performance last weekend, Langworthy again sang a similar tune to his manager.

“We let ourselves down, first half in particular. All over, that’s just way below the levels that we expect and that we demand of ourselves and that we know that we can produce.

“Don’t get me wrong, they are a good side. They were very effective and relentless in what they did and we couldn’t live with it in the first half, frustratingly, and they put us to the sword.

“We rallied around a bit in the second half and we showed a little bit more fight and won a few more battles, but you’re climbing a ridiculous mountain to try and get back from being 4-0 at half-time.”

Kick-off on Saturday is at 3pm, with the game being held at Langsford Park.
