Jade Cross displayed her pride at scoring her 175th goal for the club as she netted the fourth and final goal of the game to see the Wanderers win yet again as they defeated Derby County Women 4-0 at home on Sunday.

The number nine helped Wolves secure all three points against the Rams and Cross spoke on her milestone achievement as well as how the squad is preparing for their trip to Rugby Borough this weekend.

Cross revealed; “I thought we played well, and we stuck to our game plan.

“I think we were better in the first half and obviously played really well whereas the second half wasn’t probably at the same standard as the first half.

The Old Gold currently sit top of the Woman’s National League North table with 34 points. Full-time rivals Nottingham Forest sit closely behind Wolves with a game in hand.

The forward was clear with with what the team’s priority was as she revealed “We got the three points and that is all that matters.”

Cross achieved a milestone accomplishment for Wolves, and she unveiled that “I didn’t actually know that it was my 175th goal until I got told just now but I mean it’s a great achievement and I never thought I would get to that number.

“I’m really proud and hopefully I can continue to add to it throughout the rest of the season.”

Cross scored the fourth goal after a scramble in the box following an attempt from Amber Hughes as she headed the ball towards goal that resulted in a save and Cross tapping the ball in.

Following the Old Gold’s previous 7-2 victory against Stourbridge, Cross discussed the importance of keeping a clean sheet.

“Obviously, we want to score goals but that clean sheet is so important.

“So, to keep the clean sheet was always going to be our aim as we obviously conceded two last weekend and we weren’t happy with that, so it was great to get that today.”

Wolves face Rugby Borough on Sunday and will be eager to secure another three points as the race for promotion heats up against Nottingham Forest.

Jade Cross on the team’s preparation plans ahead of the game; “We will prepare like we do every game, Rugby are a good side.

“So, we will have to prepare well and hopefully do what we do best and get a good game plan going to go and secure the three points next week.”
