‘We’ve got to take Alcester as just another game, every game and every opponent is different so we just need to take it game by game,’ as Newent Town defender Matty Nest previews Saturday’s clash against 11th placed Alcester Town in the Hellenic Division One.
The Polish born centre-half recently returned back to the match day squad in Wednesday nights league clash in a 2-0 victory at home to Herefordshire based opposition, Wellington who currently sit in the relegation zone.

‘It was really great to back on the pitch again with the lads, it was also a huge sigh of relief really as it’s been a very frustrating period for me being out of action for the last few weeks.’
‘It was nice to get a full 90 minutes again, to get back the feeling of the ball and ultimately to seal it with a clean sheet in an all round good defensive display.’
The 19 year old defender announced himself back fit and firing again as his strike as well as a goal from midfielder Connor Wagstaff fired ‘The Daffs’ back to winning ways following loses in each of their last four league matches.

‘First of all, I’d like to give credit to the managers Luke (Handley) and Zaq (Hussain) for the way they have handled me, I wasn’t originally selected to be in the squad but due to a late injury I was thrown back in and into the starting eleven in what was a really important game for the team.’
‘The goal first of all was a massive confidence booster for myself just coming back into the team and after having a relatively mixed season so far, but it was also good to take the lead in the game which we haven’t done for a while, I think that goal brought the confidence back to the lads and ended up spurring us onto victory.’
‘From a personal view, I was very pleased to score my second of the season, credit to Dylan (Hart) and the rest of the team for the smart thinking from the set piece to present myself with the chance in the first place.
Attentions then turned to Saturday following his first game back from injury earlier in the week with the Defender urging the need for his team to stay ‘focused and for his side to be as prepared as they would for any other game’ for the fixture on Saturday afternoon.
‘It’s pretty self explanatory, we need to win and carry on this winning momentum from Wednesday and take all three points against Alcester, as a side aiming to finish in the top positions in this league it is crucial we can take as many points away from home soil as possible.’

‘I know that myself, the lads, and both the managers are ready for the challenge ahead to bring back the three points and boost us closer to the playoffs.’
The returning Defender’s Newent Town side travel to Warwickshire to face newly-promoted Alcester Town with the Gloucestershire side looking for a win to get back into the playoff places following their recent stumble in form as they currently sit in seventh, two points out of the playoff threshold.
