“I used to go and watch Gloucester as a kid and now I’m playing for the first team”, Ethan Dunbar opens up on how he is currently living his footballing dream.

Dunbar has played for many different Gloucestershire clubs in his short footballing journey so far, starting at Hartpury, where he mentioned he played with the best player he has played with at his time there. “Abdul Basset is the best player I have played with, not many people would know him but he’s a fantastic player, he is now playing in the 2nd division in America.”

Gloucester City was a big step up for Dunbar when he signed from Evesham in the summer and he explained that “the start of the season has been very different to how I expected, my aspirations going into the season was to slowly break into the team and help where I can but I hit those objectives very quickly, starting games consistently and scoring my first goal quickly.”

The 23-year-old has huge praise for everyone around the club, “the back-room staff, Daf and the players have helped me so much since joining and when the fans get loud here it’s a privilege to play infront of them because I used to be one of them”.

Joe Hanks who has recently just reached 350 appearances for Gloucester City was pointed out by Dunbar as a big inspiration to him, “I hope I can reach the same amount of appearances for Gloucester as Hanks because not many people have reached that milestone”.

“I remember I was in secondary school and me and my mates would travel to Evesham to watch the games and going from watching Hanks as a fan to now being a teammate and a mate it shows I’ve come a very long way.”

Dunbar got his first goal in the FA Trophy against Stafford Rangers and then also got the equaliser in the following game against Plymouth Parkway, “This definitely helped me, it was a big weight of my shoulders because in pre-season I thought I played well but I wasn’t able to score unfortunately”.

“Scoring goals and helping the team is my main ambition for the rest of the season”, Dunbar has 2 goals so far this season and he expressed setting short term goals is important, “reaching 10 goals is the next target for myself personally.”

Dunbar has scored a few very good goals in his career so far, “I think the one that meant the most to me would be one I scored for Bishops Cleeve against Torquay, the occasion of the game was special, there were 2500 people at the game, which was my first time playing Infront of a big crowd.”

Looking forward, the Gloucester City forward hopes to continue his good form going into a busy period of the season with Barrow in the FA Cup up next.
