Hyland‘s late market support was well founded as he extended is 100% record on the old course to 3-3, with a brave ride from Nico de Boinville as he made all in the Mucking Brilliant Paddy Power Novices’ Chase at Cheltenham.
Hyland jumped off in the lead with overnight favourite Springwell Bay and Buddy One going side by side and Resplendent Grey settling at the rear.
Springwell Bay looked keen in the hands of Jonjo O’Neill Jr , and wasn’t slick over his first few obstacles, hanging in the air.
Hyland created a two length lead as they took the water jump for the first time, with de Boinville being given an easy lead as Hyland jumped well under no pressure.
Resplendent Grey looked happy following the duo of Buddy One and Springwell Bay who raced side by side all the way round.
Springwell Bay still appeared slightly keen for O’Neil jr as they completed the first circuit.
There was no change in the order for first lap as all the jockeys settled into a good jumping rhythm, with Buddy one going nicely on the outside of Springwell Bay.
However, Buddy One made his first jumping mistake while a huge jump from Resplendent Grey drew him alongside the chasing duo.
Jockey Sean Bowen decided to drop Resplendent Grey to the back of the field where he had travelled nicely so far.
There were no changes heading into the final circuit with all rivals sitting in behind the Nicky Henderson trained Hyland.
Heading down the hill onto the home straight Springwell Bay dropped to last on the inside rail, before being pushed along to go three abreast at the turn.
Buddy One held the centre with Resplendent Grey moved up to his outside by Bowen.
Buddy One was slow into the final fence and dropped out of the contest. A mistake from Springwell Bay also cost him any chance at the win.
Hyland‘s lead over the last was cut by a good jump from Resplendent Grey who moved to the inside rail.
Despite a bold chase up the hill, Hyland was able to fend off the challenge from Bowen aboard Resplendent Grey.
