Both the University of Gloucestershire’s League of Legends first and second teams have started their 2022 Spring season.
The first team only lost one game out of three in their first day of the competition, and the loss could be solely attributed to the absence of their ‘jungler’, Will.
Will’s teammate, Adam Leaning, revealed to Park Life that Will left mid-competition because: “His roommate fell down the stairs and broke their rib, it was quite bad, they had to phone an ambulance.
“We had to pause for about 20 minutes, then we had to play 4v5 until he came back, it was a bit unfortunate.”
In the NUEL League, there are rules against pauses that surpass a certain length, regardless of the reason, so the squad needed to resume the match before Will was able to come back to the game.
After Will returned, the team was too behind and lost. The Gloucestershire squad then regrouped for their last two games of the night, and ultimately ended their first day of the season with a record of 2W-1L.
Currently tied for third place on the league tables, UOG’s first team will be facing tougher and tougher opponents if they continue their winning ways.
Leaning didn’t seem necessarily confident ahead of his team’s next fixtures but stated: “Even if we get stomped, just copy what that team did to improve.”
UOG’s second team have also played three games so far, but only won one, placing them directly behind the first team on the tables with 1W-2L.
Ben Solomons of the second team described their performance so far this season: “We played well considering we played people who are better than us statistically.
“And showed that we have a lot of potential to do very well.
“But we could improve our champion pools so that we have more potential for counter-picking and generally better drafts.”
