Gloucester Rugby announce 19 senior players to leave at the end of the season

Gloucester Rugby’s Chris Harris, Ruan Ackerman and Freddie Clarke are amongst 19 players that will depart the club at the end of the season. This is a massive clear-out for the Cherry and Whites, after what has been their best season since 2022. Here are the players that will leave the club:

Freddie Clarke Charlie Chapman, Ruan Ackermann, Chris Harris, Santiago Carreras, Albert Tuisue, Louis Hillman, Cooper Morgan, Adderly Jones, Mayco Vivas, Ioan Jones, Rory Taylor, Morgan Nelson, Alfie Petch, Christian Wade, Gareth Anscombe Gareth Blackmore, Zach Mercer, Aristot Benz Salomo, Matty Ward.

Club centurions Freddie Clarke, Ruan Ackerman and Chris Harris are three names which really stand out to be leaving at the end of the season. Freddie Clarke has played for the Cherry and whites over 150 times, a career at Kingsholm lasting since 2016. Ruan Ackerman has also surpassed the 150 appearance mark. British and Irish Lion Chris Harris has scored 26 tries in 106 matches so far in his Gloucester career.

Harris took to Instagram and said “I arrived as a boy and leave as a man, with a daughter in tow and a place we called home. The Shed, i will miss you.”

Another notable name leaving is Christian Wade. After firstly leaving rugby to go and try American football, Christian Wade will be going to try another new sport in Rugby League as he joins super league club Wigan Warriors.

Full-back Santi Carerras is heading to current league leaders Bath Rugby and Welsh fly-half Gareth Anscombe has been linked to sign with French club Bayonne.

What is next for Gloucester Rugby? A big clear out like this means that fans would expect more quality to be coming in to the team. Hopes of a premiership title in the next five years must be the aim for Skivington’s men. With fly-half Gareth Anscombe leaving, Ross Byrne is coming in to the side and he will provide stability in the crucial fly-half role.

Will Joseph is also coming into the team from the 25/26 season, he will try and fill the void that Chris Harris will leave. But with Max Llewellen also playing well at outside centre, there will be healthy competition for spots.

Other players that have been signed by Gloucester include Ben Redshaw, Ben Loader, Will Trenholm, Jack Mann, James Venter and Jack Innard.
