Gloucester City boss Mike Cook says club “has gone from shopping at Harrods to Lidl and Aldi”

Gloucester City manager Mike Cook admits that the club has been operating in a completely different way compared to last season.

The club underwent an unbelievable season last year under Steven King, making the play-offs against Brackley Town, narrowly going out on penalties.

However, the club and the squad has seen a massive change since may, changing from a full-time outfit to part-time, going through two managers and having only one player from last seasons squad, remain to this day.

“Look compared to last season, the club has gone from shopping at harrods to shopping at Lidl and Aldi players wise.

“I have really enjoyed coming back to the club so far, and believe you me it would simply be an unbelievable achievement for this club to stay up.

“I have come in and six or seven players have been playing through injury and have been unfit, so now the focus has to be getting everyone fit and trying to keep this club up.”

City face Alfreton Town tomorrow at home in the National League North, with the experienced manager looking to get the first three points of this tenure, under his belt.

Cook’s striker Danny Wright has struggled to find the net in 11 games so far but he believes that his performances have still been good.

“Danny Wright has been one of the seven players playing on an injury, he has been great at holding up the ball and his strength and aerial play has been great, he just needs to put the cherry on the cake.”
