Gareth Bale announced his retirement from Football last month, following a disappointing World Cup with Wales in Qatar and almost immediately joined the PGA Tour Pro-Am in the USA, just two months later.
Bale is Wales’ all time goal scorer, has won five Champion’s League titles with former team Real Madrid and is often regarded as ‘the best British footballer’ of all time. However, Football has not always been the first thing on his mind.
Bale’s love and passion for Golf has been widely publicised and scrutinised over the years, with many fans accusing him of prioritising his hobby over his job, amid poor form.
The criticism reached its height when Bale and the Welsh squad were photographed holding up a flag that stated ‘Wales, Golf, Madrid’ which was met with incredible amounts of backlash by supporters of Real Madrid.

Newly retired, the Welsh footballing icon is showing the public just how good he is at Golf for the first time.
Bale has a two handicap and is in a strong position following round one of the competition, however has said that despite his long history of competing in front of large crowds on the biggest stage, he still felt nervous on the first tee.
Other major celebrities competing in the Pro-Am alongside Bale include NFL star Aaron Rodgers, former NBA star Pau Gasol, actor Bill Murray and rapper ‘Macklemore’
The footballer is partnered with professional golfer Joseph Bramlett, the pair finished round one with a seven under par 65. Bale is currently sat at 18th in the amateur standings.
Many people will be pleased to see that all of the injury time spent on golf courses, has resulted in some good skill for Bale.
