Former Forest Green Rovers manager Rob Edwards has had an approach from Premier League Wolverhampton Wanderers rejected by current club Middlesbrough.
Edwards took over at the Riverside in the summer after being sacked by now League One side Luton Town after being relegated with the Hatters.
Despite rumours that Boro have rejected the approach, his press conference, that was scheduled for 1pm, has since been cancelled.
The 42-year-old took charge of Gloucestershire-based side Forest Green in May 2021, and lead them to the League Two title that season.
In that time, he won League Two manager of the month three times, leading Rovers to the third tier for the first time.
In controversial terms, he left Gloucestershire by “mutual consent” to take on a job at Watford. However, he did not last long at Vicarage Road, getting sacked after two months.
A job at rivals Luton followed, where he experienced immense success but also failure, leading them to the Premier League, but then also overseeing back to back relegations.
Although his season at Kenilworth Road was tough last season, Middlesbrough we’re willing to take a bet on him after parting ways with Michael Carrick. The bet so far, has paid off, the side finding themselves third, picking up 26 points in 14 games.
This good start has seen him linked with the job at one of his previous clubs, Wolves, but it’s thought that Boro have rejected this approach.
However, as confirmed by BBC Sport and Sky Sports, it’s through that the manager has cancelled this afternoon’s press conference ahead of their home clash with Birmingham City on Saturday.

Wolves sacked former manager VÃtor Pereira earlier this month following his side’s 3-0 loss away at Fulham, which left them rock bottom of the Premier League, winless in 10 games.
Two consecutive draws against Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton and Hove Albion were the only two points the side picked up.
Multiple former Premier League managers, including the likes of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Gary O’Neil and Erik Ten Hag have also been linked with the role.
It is believed that O’Neil has withdrawn from the running after holding talks with his former club.

We would like to thank Vitor and his staff for their tireless work during their time at Molineux.
All eight of Pereira’s backroom staff have also departed Molineux, leaving the interim job to youth coaches James Collins and Richard Walker, who will take charge for their tough away clash at Stamford Bridge tomorrow, the side facing 7th-placed Chelsea.
