EFL Championship: Swansea City’s relegation battle begins as Ipswich Town win 2-1

Nathan Broadhead and Conor Chaplin score at the Swansea.com to give Ipswich Town the crucial three points towards the fight for automatic promotion places, while Swansea City are left in 18th place in the league, four points away from the relegation zone.

Welshman Broadhead opened the account to put Ipswich Town ahead, continuing Swansea’s season-long record of conceding in the first half.

Broadhead gained the ball from a Swansea mistake, he moved up the pitch to go one-on-one with Carl Rushworth, where he just chipped it over the keeper to score his 11th goal of the season.

Swansea brought a goal back with one of their first attacks of the game, Ben Cabango flicked the ball to Jerry Yates as he scored the tap in from a yard away.

Four minutes later, against the run of play, Ipswich scored another after a brilliant piece of teamwork which saw Cameron Burgess find Leif Davies on the wing, Davies crossed to Conor Chaplin in the box who put the ball past Rushworth and brought one back.

Ipswich started the action quickly as they forced some early defending for Swansea in the first 30 seconds, something Swans have been a victim of in previous matches.

However Swansea was given the first corner of the game but Paterson sent the ball in with a very poor delivery and couldn’t beat the wall.

The first real chance of the second half saw Kieffer Moore take a fantastic shot on goal against his ex-rivals but Rushworth managed to tip it over to hit the crossbar.

After Charlie Patino entered the pitch there were massive calls for handball after one of his shots was blocked and went out for a corner, where again there were more penalty shouts due to heavy pushing and shoving.

Both teams continued to push each other gaining chances but the score remained the same since the 35th minute.

Lack of goalscoring success proved Swansea continue to miss their injured players with the list that includes Ashby, Lowe, and Ginnelly.

Next Swansea City face 10th in the table Sunderland at the Stadium of Light after keeping them to a draw in early November. Ipswich Town are facing bottom of the table Rotherham on Tuesday night.
