With the 2025 Gloucester Cheese Roll fast approaching let’s take a look at what to expect from this years event.
The Gloucester Cheese Roll has taken place at Cooper’s Hill since 1826, the event consists of 25 people who throw themselves down the hill in hunt of a wheel of double Gloucester cheese.
The wheel of cheese itself is virtually impossible to be caught so, the winner is determined by the person who crosses the line at the bottom of the hill first.
The race is only 180 meters long but with a average gradient of over 45 degrees the race is not for the faint hearted.

In past years contestants have picked up a number of injuries, with highest all-time winner Chris Anderson suffering a broken ankle, concussion, a torn calf muscle and bruised kidneys during his 14 years participating in the race.
Anderson currently holds the record for most wins at 23, while Anderson has retired from the cheese roll at only 38 years old there is still the possibility of a potential return.
The event in 2024 saw Abby Lambe from North Carolina win the women’s race for the second time in her career whilst German Tom Kopke winning the first men’s race, with the later pledging to retain his title at the race in 2025.
The biggest story from the day was the participation from social media influencer and YouTube star IShowSpeed, who did hint at a return following the race last year.

While there is no guarantee of participants, due to sign ups occurring on the day, the prospect of the Americans attendance will be sure to bring in a crowd.
The event takes place on Monday the 26th of May at Cooper’s Hill in Brockworth with the first race getting underway at 12pm, so if you fancy some entertainment make sure you head down to watch the chaos unfold.
