Cheltenham Town Women Assistant Manager Mike Harris plays down Sunday’s chances: “Watford will be favourites”

Cheltenham Town Women Assistant Manager Mike Harris has played down the Robinesses chances this weekend, insisting Watford Women “will be the favourites” on Sunday.

When the two sides met earlier in the season, Watford won 2-0 with goals from Megan Chandler and Anna Marie Filbey, a result which frustrated manager Tom Davies.

However, since that game, Cheltenham have had an upturn in results, having progressed to the Fourth Round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup as well as the final of the FA Women’s National League Plate.

Watford currently sit in fifth in the Southern Premier Division and have won three of their last four, but have had three players sent off in their last two games.

Looking ahead to Sunday’s fixture, Harris believes that Watford should be winning the majority of their games, after they were relegated from the Women’s Championship last season.

“They are a good side. They were relegated from the Championship, they were probably favourites early on to challenge Ipswich and go straight back up.

“I think they’ll be frustrated at their season. We think they will come here as favourites, but we have been very good at home all season.”

Tom Davies’ side has only lost four home games this season, but find themselves without top goal scorer Una Lue and new signing Amelie Curtis, as they are away on international duty with Jamaica Under 20’s and Wales Under 19’s, respectively.

However, the Robinesses are full of confidence after beating Pucklechurch Sports Ladies 11-0 last Sunday, with Jess Leach returning from injury and scoring a hat-trick, with five other goal-scorers which pleased Harris.

“It was great to use the whole squad on Sunday. We have opportunities for people to succeed and they took their chances well.”
