“I love this club”: Steve Davies on approaching 200 appearances for Bishops Cleeve

Midfielder Steve Davies played his 199th appearance for Bishops on Tuesday, against Dorchester Town.

“I’ve been here for several years now; if I can reach that milestone, it’ll mean an awful lot to me.”

Davies joined the Mitres in 2019 and has been a key part of the midfield in Paul Collicutt’s squad.

The number 16 mentions how much he has enjoyed his time at the club, and everyone involved with it.

“They’re all great people: the volunteers, the people behind the scenes, the players, and the manager.”

He also expressed how much it has affected his life since being at Kayte Lane. “Bishops Cleeve is a massive part of my life.”

“It’s incredible; I hope it comes next Tuesday.”

Cleeve don’t play until Tuesday, 10th Nov, against Hartpury University; currently sit one place above them, in 7th place, just inside the play-off spots in the Southern Prem Div One South.

Collicutt’s men lost 3-0 away to Hartpury back in December last season and will hope to build on that performance.

“We’ve got another top eight side (Hartpury Uni), so the games don’t get any easier. It was a tough result last time out at their place.”

Without a game on the weekend, Cleeve will have two key training sessions ahead of the fixture.

“We’re in on Thursday, and we’re on Saturday; we’ll look at defensive errors and being more clinical.”

The Mitres, last time out, lost to title contenders, Dorchester Town, 4-0.

Despite the scoreline, Davies believes there were still some positives to take from it.

“We’ve played some really good stuff; you could’ve argued that the game could’ve ended four-all.”

Magpies’ goalkeeper, Ryan Hall, was a key part of their victory, including a penalty stop.

“I thought their keeper (Hall) pulled off some great saves; he denied a penalty. I could think of three or four other moments that were good saves.”

However, the midfielder understands that they need to improve ahead of their fixture against Hartpury.

“The reality is that we must be more ruthless in the boxes. We’re conceding too many and were not scoring enough.”
