“I’m happy to be here and the football is enjoyable” – Cheltenham Town winger Ryan Broom on form, versatility and fatherhood

“What made me come back here for the third time, is the fact I’ve always played good football here and enjoyed myself wanting to emulate and improve on what I’ve done here in the past,” says Cheltenham Town’s Ryan Broom.

This is the Welshman’s third stint at the Robins after joining the club in 2018 and 2022 before his signing over the summer in 2025.

“I have really enjoyed this season so far, 10 games in. It’s gone quickly. I’m happy to be here and the football is enjoyable.”

After 10 games, Cheltenham are fourth in League Two on 15 points following last Saturday’s away defeat to Accrington Stanley.

Broom, 30, has become father for the first time since the end of last season and he’s been thoroughly enjoying his new responsibilities.

“It can be daunting at first when thinking about the balance between playing and responsibilities at home, but obviously now fatherhood has happened it feels natural to me. It is also incredibly rewarding, and it’s given me more focus.”

Back on the pitch Broom has had a successful start to Town’s League Two campaign, the versatile player he is means he’s been in-and-out of positions.

“Been in a mix of positions but the boss has been playing me on the left side consistently and now it’s up to me to keep it.

“It feels natural now playing on the left side given that for most of my career I’ve preferred to play on the right.”

A look ahead to Salford City on Saturday, after a loss last week it’s interesting to see how the squad look to prepare for the biggest game of the season so far for the Robins.

“Preparation as normal, the motivation for us is to put Saturday’s game against Accrington behind us and put it right.”

Cheltenham’s next game is on Saturday against top of the league Salford only one point ahead.
