“I hope we can get a decent crowd”: Steve Cotterill on Barrow

Steve Cotterill has called on fans to “help the team out” against Barrow as Cheltenham look to continue their unbeaten streak on Friday evening.

The Robins have been unbeaten in their last four with three draws and a dramatic last-minute winner from George Miller securing victory over Salford last time out at Whaddon Road.

Speaking on the recent form, the Cheltenham boss hoped that recent results can help bring a crowd to the EV Charger Point Stadium this weekend.

“Hopefully it will be a decent crowd because they are a couple of important weeks for us, and I said when I came in that if we had kept on going the same way, we would have finished on 18 points. We’ve doubled that and we’ve got a lot more games to go.”

Cheltenham are also expecting January signing Mo Faal to be available within the next couple of days. The Gambian forward signed from Wrexham on loan after a stint at Port Vale, where he picked up an injury which has left him having to rehabilitate with his parent club.

“His rehab is going according to plan; he’s on the grass, so he’s building himself up to that international break when he is looking to come into the building with us. Hopefully, it will be really good for us.”

The gaffer is “proud” of his squad at the minute, and he hopes that they can continue their recent impressive form going into the business end of the season.

“I think the squad at this moment in time is a really good, healthy, competitive and cohesive group; the vibe around them is really good at the minute, and we need to take that onto the pitch and make sure we finish in a professional manner in what’s been a difficult season for the club.”

Meanwhile for Barrow, the Bluebirds went into the relegation spots on Tuesday night after Newport County’s 3-1 win over Tranmere Rovers.

Barrow have only won one in their last 10, which came against Colchester, and they’ve recently made a managerial change with Paul Gallagher being dismissed after only a month for former Burton manager Dino Maamria, whom Cotterill has come up against multiple times.

“When you look at his first games, the teams changed. They’ve had a couple dodgy games, but there won’t be any surprises to our guys, and we’ll try and play what is our game against them.”

Former Rangers midfielder Charlie McCann is well known to the Robins gaffer after spending last year with Cotterill at Forest Green, as he moved to Barrow last October.

“We had a chat last time out and swapped pleasantries before the game, but with the result last time out I decided to just leave it.”

The Robins came out as the 2-1 victors up north last time out, with goals from Hakeeb Adelakun and Ethon Archer securing three points for the Robins.

“I look back on that and think about the hard graft the squad has had to put in; the staff and players have all been incredible, and I feel a mentality now that people want to come into work, and that’s what I want for these lads.”
