“We have to be targeting UWE and Exeter” University of Gloucestershire tennis player Josh Davies targets these two matches as they look to climb up the table.

The UOG tennis team have just come off the back of a clean 6-0 victory over Cardiff met University, and look to take more victories on the road as they set their sights high.

“Potentially the league, might be a bit of a stretch.

“Exeter are quite strong and Solent as they showed us are a very strong team, but we definitely have games we have to be targeting UWE and Exeter, so a strong finish but I think winning is a bit out of reach.”

He recounted his game which helped UOG get a clean victory over Cardiff.

“Was a fantastic game started off really strong took an early lead, four love in the first set, we made it a bit more difficult than it had to be in the second set, that’s just how tennis goes sometimes, they definitely grew into the game slower than us and by that second set it was much more an even match, but overall got the job done even though it went to tie break.”

This win was one of six and Harrison O’Dwyer also won his games on Wednesday being involved in a singles game and doubles.

“Doubles went well, started off with a good win, I feel like we started off very well won the first set quite comfortably but then the other team switched up their style of play came into the net more, kept the ball in play made us work. It went to a tie break in the end but we won.”

“Singles was a tough game a long one, lost the first set I feel like after that fitness and fatigue came into play, I kept the ball in play, made him run I knew I could get the job done which I did in a long tie break.”

O’Dwyer also outlined his thoughts on the upcoming fixtures and what they mean for the league.

“Two wins one loss so a positive record that’s good, it’s a strong team this year, we have  got tough matches against Exeter, so we will see how they go, where they take us but I hope we get to top of the table.”

With UOG coming off the back of a dominant win they will be looking to build upon the strong performance and gain even more points as they head through the season.
