Mike Cook looks ahead to Winchester clash

Gloucester City manager, Mike Cook, admits he has mixed feelings ahead of his sides game against Winchester tomorrow afternoon.

This comes after their confident victory over Gosport and he believes his side are “a lot more confident” since before the run into the Christmas period last year.

The home team this weekend are currently on an unbeaten streak of 10 games in which Cook believes his players have “turned the corner in the past couple of games.”

The Gloucestershire based club are currently on a confident run of form in which, Cook believes his side have “changed for the better” and believes that his side are “trying to get on this little journey.”

Despite being eleven points clear from first place Cook remains adamant that his squad “want to win the league.”

Gloucester City will be without Spencer Hamilton and Riley McGregor who are still out with injuries, but the manager believes that the duo “look like they are on their way back.”

But on the other hand, Cook is wary about the effects of the midweek game taking place on a Wednesday rather than the usual Tuesday as his players had “24 hours less rest.”

Despite the short turnaround the Gloucester City manager believes that his team are “giving it a good go.”

Despite the unbeaten run the manager remains aware of the fact that his side “haven’t been firing up front” and believes that the squad have relied too much on striker, Joe Hanks, who comes into the game with 20 goals so far this season.

The manager praised his performance and believes his goal scoring habits “have worked really well.”

Gloucester City are hoping to maintain the momentum and “just keep this one going.”

The visitors come into the tie with only two wins from the last five games and are currently in the relegation battle. Despite that, Cook believes that the game is “going to be tough” and that his Gloucester players will have to be “on it again.”

In the last meeting between the two teams Gloucester City won the game 4-2.

Cook reflected on the game and believed that his team “should have beat them by a bit more.”

However, the manager remains steady of the fact that his opponents have “made a couple of changes, they don’t want to get relegated.”

The home side sit five points clear of second place and only twelve points clear from first.

A win this weekend “just puts a little bit more pressure on the teams above.”

The manager remains ambitious about the title hopes and is adamant his side “want to win the league” and believes his team are “not going to give up on that.”

Cook looks forward to the game this weekend and believes it will be “a good entertaining game.”

Gloucester will be looking for a convincing win in their challenge for the title.
