Cheltenham Town boss Michael Flynn ‘definitely’ wants more signings ahead of transfer deadline day

Cheltenham Town Manager Michael Flynn is expecting some late nights ahead of transfer deadline day on Monday as his side looks to add at least one more signing.

The Robins have signed five loan players so far this January transfer window, including the signing of Brentford B duo of Ashley Hay and Val Adedokun, but the Cheltenham boss is hoping for another.

“I definitely want one more,” said Flynn.

“There is something we need and I am trying. I have been up all of yesterday and last night.

“I have to be patient with exactly what I want, but on the flip side we have to make sure no one leaves too.”

Chairman David Bloxham revealed back in October that major shareholders were willing to sell their stakes in the club, with the club seeking “substantial” new investment, a decision that may be having a knock on effect on Flynn and his side now.

“(We are waiting) On a few things, we only have a certain amount (of money) and I’ve got to make sure it’s used properly,” added the former Swindon Town manager.

“Until I’ve been told different, we have got this squad.”

The 44-year-old also revealed a number of key players were on their way back soon.

“Ryan Haynes is probably only now three or four weeks away so that’s a good sign.

“Liam Dulson is also back in training, and Harry Pell is moving really well and has worked extremely hard so it’s light at the end of the tunnel for him.”

Pell signed from Wimbledon in the summer but Flynn is careful not to bring the midfielder back too early.

“We’ve got to weigh up the pros and cons. If it’s towards the end of the season, is it really worth risking it for three or four games or should we let him come back and have a solid pre-season?

“There’s certianly things to think about.”

With Chesterfield at home this weekend, and his side struggling with goals recently, Flynn had some words of wisdom for his side off the back of their goalless draw with Accrington Stanley on Tuesday.

“Hit the target,” he said.

“It’s not through lack of trying, I thought with the chances we had we probably should’ve won the game.

“When we played them at home I thought it was probably a draw on the outcome of the game, but we won, so four points against Accrington, and clean sheet away from home after a long journey, I didn’t get back until 3am.”

Cheltenham hope to make it three straight wins at home in all competitions after victories over Colchester and Salford, with a triumph taking the Robins to 11th in the League Two table.
