UOG Badminton’s Ben Timmons on Bath defeat and return to the sport

University of Gloucestershire’s badminton first team player, Ben Timmons believes his side’s performance was “lacklustre” after an 8-0 defeat to Bath.

“The scoreline did’t reflect the overall performance, there were some moments where we did catch them out but we were a bit hesitant to move and overall that was the factor.”

UOG men have so far lost all eight of their BUCS fixtures this season against strong opposition and Timmons believes their, “simple mistakes” are to blame.

“It’s always the same with us, we make simple mistakes and are caught out of position, the opposition see a weakness from a player and capitalise on it.”

Timmons spent last season on the sidelines due to placement commitments and has found it, “difficult” to adapt after a year out.

“I’m still working to adapt especially as I’m more of a singles player and at the moment I’m playing more doubles as we have better options but that’s the way it goes.

“Being a singles player is quite different in terms of how the game is played, in singles it’s all about playing the length and moving the player around, whereas doubles is much more of a flat game and if your the first one to lift that’s where the disadvantages are.”
