UOG Goalkeeper Dan Smith is “unbelievably happy” with team’s performance so far this season

University of Gloucestershire first team goalkeeper and vice captain Dan Smith believes his team played, “really well” as they headed to down to Exeter fourths for their fifth away game in a row.

UOG sit second in the Men’s Western Tier 3 four points off first with two games in hand and are hoping to secure promotion back to the second tier after they were relegated two seasons ago.

Smith felt his team, “dominated the first half with two clinical goals” however Exeter “came out in the second half a lot stronger, and we were in a lot of trouble.”

UOG have been travelling all around the south west so far this season and are yet to play a home game dearly missing the home comfort of their well kept 4G pitch.

“Considering we are a ball playing team, playing on that pitch was really hard for us so coming home with a two one win was very good.”

The boys in blue have picked up seven points from a possible nine a start that Smith is, “unbelievably happy” with.

“We’re a ball playing team and the fact that we’ve picked up seven from nine on probably the worst three pitches we ever could’ve played on has been really good, I think we’ve gelled really well as a team and now playing at home we’ve really got to push on and see if we can win the league.”

There’s been an influx of new faces over the summer and Smith is pleased with how they’ve settled in, “coming in from preseason I thought they got straight into the team really well and we’ve really gelled as a team.”

First year Oakley James scored his first league goal for the blues against Exeter on Wednesday and Smith is, “really happy” with how he’s palying.

There’s been a number of injuries in the back line so far this season and Smith has found it, “quite hard” to adapt to a new back line but believes in his teammates.

“I trust all the people who play in front of me, whoever is in the back four I think we’ve all done a good job.”

UOG will finally have an exciting homecoming against familiar opposition in Bath threes.

Smith is, “really looking forward to playing at Plock court, we really play well at home, with the astro we will move the ball around really well, Bath are very good at going forward but not so great going back so I think we can get some good forward plays going and score some really good goals.”

UOG host Bath three’s on Wednesday the fourth of December.
