Cheltenham Town boss Michael Flynn acknowledges “killing off teams” ahead of their clash against Tranmere Rovers

Michael Flynn admits that Cheltenham Town needs to improve their form by learning to “kill off” games and secure wins.

Coming off a narrow 3-2 loss away at Milton Keynes Dons, Flynn is hoping to take the positives out of the game and take them into tonight’s fixture.

“We got to kill off teams and keep putting performances consistently together.

“Like I said over the last six weeks we’ve been a different animal, we’ve been a lot better and much more competitive even if we draw or lose the fans are seeing what we are about and that’s the important thing at the minute because we need everyone to stick together.”

Despite many positives, Cheltenham Town saw their 2-0 lead slip away in a devastating loss.

“It is and again, like I said after the game there’s a lot of positives there, Saturday, the defending for the three goals was not up to standard and we really limited them to that.

“The offside goal was their best move and best chance that they created, so they just handed over three points.”

Cheltenham face Tranmere Rovers, who sit 19th in League Two, two places below the Robins but with games in hand.

“As every other League 2 game, it’s a very, very tough game, they’re littered with experience, and they’ve spent a bit of money in the summer as well.

“I’m sure that they will pick up and hopefully it’s after tomorrow evening because, like I said we’ve been on a good run and one defeat does not turn into two. “

Loan defender Sam Stubbs is touch and go to for tonight’s game at the EV Charger Points Stadium.

“He’s got a chance, so hopefully he will be alright, if not, we will pick the team that we think will get us the points.”

Arkell Jude-Boyd has also returned from international duty with St Lucia.

Playing a total of 90 minutes over two games, Flynn is hoping that there are no injury worries.

“I haven’t heard anything.

“I haven’t heard anything yet and if he does come back injured, I’m going to be really disappointed because he’s going to have to be professional enough to tell us that.

“He will be in today and I’ll see him.

“He’s probably having some breakfast at the minute, but I haven’t heard anything so I’m presuming, and I know not presume things in football and in life either so I will double check.”

Cheltenham’s home performances need to start picking up with only two wins being picked up from eight games.

“It’s not the home performance per-say, I just said that last week when we spoke before the Bromley game, I think couple of our worst performances have been at home in terms of Fleetwood and the first half at Wimbledon.

“You know, we’ve put some good performances in at home and again we should of won the game against Bromley, we didn’t, it was good character from them, they kept going with 10 men and it is what it is and it may be a valuable point at the end of the season.

“So we’ve got to try and win some more games at home and climb the table.”
