Jonbon secures back to back Shloer Chases at Cheltenham for trainer Nicky Henderson

A seasonal re-appearance success for Jonbon as star two-mile chaser takes the Shloer Chase again at the November Cheltenham meet.

Jonbon jumped away ahead of Edwardstone, Boothill and Unexpected Party as they took up the odds order.

The Skelton trained Unexpected Party made a bad mistake when getting too low to the second fence who dropped five lengths out the back of the field.

Jonbon jumped nicely early on, seeing his stride well under Nico de Boinville and eyeing up every fence as it came.

Edwardstone raced slightly keen along with Boothill in second and third respectively.

As the race neared halfway the strong early pace from Jonbon had the field strung out by 15 lengths.

Edwardstone was encouraged to close the gap to Jonbon with three fences to go by jockey Tom Cannon as they started their descent towards the home straight.

As they turned into the home straight Boothill and Edwardstone closed up to within a length of short priced favourite Jonbon, with Edwardstone tucking in behind.

Unexpected Party was first to be pushed along as they turned into the straight when heavily detached.

Over the last Jonbon was pushed clear as Edwardstone lost momentum on landing, allowing Boothill to come alongside Cannon’s ride.

The two length advantage was all Jonbon needed as he saw out the finish to extend his record to 16 victories from 19 runs.

Boothill‘s strong jump at the last under jockey Bryan Carver was able to push the horse along, who rallied well on the inside between the rail and Edwardstone to take second at the line.

1st – Jonbon 1/3F

2nd – Boothill 12/1

3rd – Edwardstone 9/2
