UWE Social Football League: New team tops the table in exciting shake-up

Real Sosobad are the new league leader of the UWE Social Football League after a 12-3 victory over Rolls Reus.

Words of confidence from Real player Brian Chivasa spoke on the team’s goals for the rest of the season. “When we get the team going in its entirety we should do well over the course of the season.

We’ve added some new people so as we get to know each other, the easier it will be to play.” Chivasa plays a mixed role for his team, playing as a goalkeeper as well as on the wing. Chivasa continues to mention his personal goals for the season.

“I want to get my fitness up and contribute more to team goals. I don’t tend to shoot much myself. I also look to work on my goalkeeping as I play half the match in goal and the other half outfield.

My biggest priority is helping the team finish top three. This season we have a really good team. And our rivals in the previous season have dropped out of the league. For us, we should be looking to finish at the higher end of the table

When a rival steps aside the potential for complacency may follow. However, Chivasa and his side remain staunch. “With them gone, I feel we can push with nothing stopping us. There’s no fear.”

Chivasa now entering his final season for his club. He reflects on his earlier seasons to the current and why they now sit higher in the table.

“Last year we could hardly string passes together. This year we’ve found a balance. The movement, the positional changes, tactical flexibility due to our change in players and now our main central defensive midfielder return from injury. We have a lot more control.”

Despite leading the league, Chivasa points out the clear possible improvements that can be made to the team to fill in the current cracks. “When we play a three-at-the-back formation, I am not confident that our wingers track back to defend.

So I feel another defensive shape change needs to be made. Playing with four in the defence adds stability.  Being in goal I can see the subtle drops in the team’s performances.

Speaking of which, Finding a permanent goalkeeper would be a key change.

Being in his third and final year Chivasa and some other Real players hope to leave behind a legacy for what they’ve built together.

“I would like to win the league title, that will hopefully keep people motivated to stay. I’ve seen teams disband year after year.

We have awards nights and evenings out with the team. Hopefully, this will keep the younger players wanting to carry the team on. We have a Twitter page, and Instagram and we’re the most followed team in UWE. So hopefully when we leave, we can pass that down as well.”
