UOG athletics captain Michael Gamble on his length of the UK run to raise money for Men’s mental health

UOG athletics captain Michael Gamble will be dropped off at John O’ Groats and will hope to run all the way to Lands End on October 28 and has set a time period of four weeks to do it in.

He will attempt his solo run from the UK’s most northern eastern mainland point to the south-western point in Cornwall with nothing but a tent and a bag on his back.

Gamble’s total trip consists of ultra marathons amounting to the minimum of 1.5x the elevation of Mount Everest, equating to 1,600km in steps.

The run comes with lots of challenges for as he attempts this run in the winter which is sure to come with freezing cold temperatures and horrible weather conditions.

Gamble’s reasoning for attempting this run comes after unfortunately losing a friend of his and hopes to raise £1,100 pounds for Movember, a men’s mental health charity.

Gamble stated what inspired him to make this decision. “So I was like, right. Well, I want to raise money for Movember . And, obviously, as as a group of lads, we all do it. So I was like, well, I’m gonna just do, like, loads of running then because I I could do that. Uh, and I happened to, get a pretty serious injury as well, like, on on the game.

I think for me, the biggest thing is I’m like, unbelievably, as every bloke is unbelievably passionate about men’s mental health. And, uh, so since Movember cause obviously I lost a mate before that and that was that was, like, a big driving factor for that. Since that, I’ve already been to another mate’s funeral”.
