After an intense end to end battle, the points were shared between Quedgeley Wanders and Rockleaze Rangers at the Waterwell Sports Centre and it’s safe to say it was more than a fair result.
Wanderers centre-midfielder and Gloucestershire University star Dylan Venn thought his side “battled through” the game after “we started off pretty slow, ended up 1-0 down in the first 20 minutes”.
Rockleaze Rangers attacker Fraser Butt put his side ahead with a big mistake from the goalkeeper allowing him to roll the ball into an empty net.
The local Gloucestershire side was littered with university talent with three Gloucestershire University players involved in the fixture.
Venn added that “I’m trying to get more of the University boys to join the side” as Quedgeley look to climb up the table after being out of all cup competitions.
After going one-nil down, the home side were rejuvenated, “and went in 1-1 at half time, and we scored a good goal”.
Connor Webb was the goal scorer after a corner led to a struggle in the box with the Wanderers winger taking the chance.
With it all to play for in the second-half, Venn believed that his side “battled just as well I think we probably had more of the better chances in the second half but just couldn’t score in the end”.
Although the score remained 1-1 for the rest of the game, both sides had disallowed goals late on in the game which led to the atmosphere of the game becoming more hostile.
This resulted in players picking up injuries or receiving cautions from the referee. Venn “Thought he was a bit too lenient on some of the fouls, I feel like he should’ve given a few more yellows to the other team, but overall, I think he did a good job”.
