Preview: Gloucester Rugby vs Clermont Auvergne in the European Challenge Cup

This evening Gloucester Rugby face Clermont Auvergne in the European Challenge Cup, looking to get back to back wins for the first time this season.

The game kicks off at Kingsholm at 8pm.

Last time out, the Cherry and Whites won 15-10 away against Georgian side Black Lion as fly half George Barton kicked five penalties.

Meanwhile, Clermont hammered Edinburgh 31-18 earning a try scoring bonus point so sit in second place in the pool with Gloucester close behind in third.

The Gloucester starting lineup is significantly strengthened ahead of the match as back row pair Lewis Ludlow and Zach Mercer return.

Similarly, Clermont skipper Fritz Lee comes back into the starting lineup after coming off the bench last time out.

Additionally, international players Louis Rees-Zammit, Chris Harris, Santi Carreras and Stephen Varney also come back into the starting 15.

Gloucester’s director of rugby, George Skivington said: “we are starting to see people come back into training who haven’t featured for the team yet.

“Our internationals have had an opportunity to have a break and come back fresh, so there’s lot of energy.”

The game is Gloucester’s first home European game of the season and will be the first-ever fixture between the Cherry and Whites and the three-time Challenge Cup winners.

Tickets are available from Β£16 for adults and Β£10 for juniors.
