David Horseman: “I know what I’m doing” as pressure mounts on Forest Green boss ahead of Wrexham visit

David Horseman assures fans he knows what he’s doing as pressure builds on the Forest Green Rovers manager ahead of their League Two clash with Wrexham.

Rovers fans have made it clear in recent weeks of their unhappiness with how the club has been performing under Horseman.

“We are probably not their favourite people at the minute but only we can change that.

“I would rather it come towards me than the players because somebody has to take it and it should be me.

“I know what I am doing, I see the quality, people see the work to suggest performances aren’t as bad as some of the results or league position are suggesting,” Horseman said.

Withust one win in their last six and goalless in their last three it seems to be a horrid time to face high-flying Wrexham.

Rovers are currently suffering an unprecedented injury problem which has seen three of their first-team strikers all out for significant periods of time.

But opponents Wrexham bring an arsenal of firepower with Ollie Palmer, Elliott Lee, and Paul Mullins all finding the net for fun this season.

“Elliott Lee is probably one of the best players in the division.

“If you don’t close off your Palmers, Mullins, Lees, their above the level for sure,” he said.

With pressure growing on the Rovers boss, Horseman has tried to show fans what his ideas are for the future by comparing his side to the current Wrexham status.

“Wrexham is a blueprint for teams like us as when they got taken over, it wasn’t smooth sailing for them.

“It goes to show that if you have some patience and you have a plan, don’t change every five minutes when things get tough, you can kick on,” he said.

A bumper crowd is expected at The New Lawn on Saturday with the ground close to being sold out for the first time in almost two years.

It was one of the lowest attendances in recent times during Tuesday’s Bristol Street Motors Trophy defeat to Oxford United with just 458 in support.

Horseman views Saturday’s clash as the perfect opportunity to advertise their style of football to try and bring people back to the stadium.

“At the minute I appreciate that attendance is dropping because aren’t winning and winning is everything to football.

“The ones there on Tuesday night really showed their appreciation and support for the players.

“If we turn up and play our football, we can excite people,” he said.

A player that Horseman might look to call on for a result is loanee striker, Callum Morton, who returned from injury on Tuesday night.

The Salford loanee had netted three in three games before being sidelined with an ankle injury and Horseman believes his side will get better once he returns.

“He played 27 minutes on Tuesday night and will get a few more on Saturday.

“I have to be careful in terms of rushing him back.

“What I won’t do with Callum is panic.

“When he has played, we are significantly better team,” he said.

Forest Green Rovers welcome Wrexham to The New Lawn in League Two on Saturday with kick-off at 3 pm.
