Club Captain Daniel Jones admitted “with the 1st home game kicking off the season for them it’s always nervy before” as UOG looked to rebuild the team ahead of the new season.

Gloucestershire University 1st team in men’s football claimed all three points on their first fixture of the season in what was a convincing and promising performance for the blues.
Against an opposition of a high level, Bath 3’s kept compact and solid in the early stages of the game.
But going forward, Gloucester “looked fluid and felt we could score at any opportunity”, and not long after in came in the form of a cheeky chip as number nine Macsen Rhys-William nutmegged the defender and chipped the keeper to take the lead.

Left winger Rene Nistor described the tactics used by his team as “we set the tempo straight away and kept the same intensity throughout the first half”
This led to the bright left winger taking the ball round the keeper after beating his man, and slotting the ball into the net.
Nistor was jubilant in his celebrations as the team crowded him and he produced a back flip to top off a wonderful first half from the hosts.
Going into the second half, “Our team talk going into the 2nd half was very positive as we implemented what the manager wanted us to do, which was to stay high up the pitch, to allow us to have a continuous press, and allow the intensity to be within our advantage”.
UOG started strong and continued to dominate the game, scoring another goal to increase the lead to three goals to nil.

Star centre midfielder Joe Comerford topped off his stellar performance with his first goal of the campaign, to give his team some security in the late stages of the game.
But as the weather got worse and the game went on, Bath started to dominate and clawed one goal back, to bring the second half to life.
The final 30 minutes were relatively even, with Bath keeping the ball and the Gloucester attackers and midfielders were pressing constantly to stop the attack and hold onto their lead.

Goalscorer Rene Nistor exclaimed “we initiated the press and we had the hunger to win the ball back and defend our lead until the final whistle”
The game ended 3-1 to the University of Gloucestershire, Club captain Daniel Jones believed “it was a performance worthy of three points and is undoubtedly the start to the season we most wanted”
