“We’ve got to keep going,” says Swindon Town Academy manager Sean Wood as his team enters a crucial period in the season

Swindon Town Academy manager Sean Wood praised his team after making the quarterfinals of the PDL Cup after beating AFC Bournemouth away last Saturday.

However, Wood knows his side need to keep focus going into the Christmas period: “We’ve got to keep pushing every day, keep working hard, making sure everybody’s turning up, keep working ahead of those IDPs, making sure we’re preparing for the next game.”

Swindon Town Academy play their next match against Portsmouth in the Youth Alliance League at Beversbrook as the team look for another victory in the league.

However, they come up against a tough Portsmouth side who are on a winning run of nine games and come in with strong form.

“It will be into Portsmouth on Saturday in the league as well. So this period is always a challenging period for everybody across the season.

“There’s always games coming thick and fast, Saturday, Tuesday, Saturdays. That’s preparing everybody for whatever level of football they go into because that’s real, that’s what it looks like.

“And then we just have to make sure we’re preparing everybody from all disciplines, making sure we turn up again on Monday and full focus turns to the next game, which will be Saturday.”
