Sweet David wins dramatic race on Cross Country course in first race with fans back in the middle

A dramatic ending meant Sweet David came home comfortably to win the 2:55 Glenfarclas Cross Country Handicap Chase.

Favourite Tommie Beau jumped off into an early lead heading up to the first jump.

Conflated joined Tommie Beau at the front with Back on the lash in third and Mister Coffey at the rear at the third fence.

Tommie Beau and Conflated continued to lead the 2:55 race, a length clear at fence five.

A mistake from Conflated allowed Tommie Beau to create a small gap at the front, with Sweet David who travelled well in the midfield pack.

Tommie Beau lead by three lengths at fence nine, Back On The Lash jumped in second. At this point Conflated dropped back, and was pushed wide.

The race settled into a rhythm at halfway with Tommie Beau still leading from the front. Slipway was starting to get into the front pack, alongside Back On The Lash and Conflated.

Slipway then started to come into his own, and took the lead away from Tommie Beau for the first time in the race.

By this point, Conflated had dropped to the back alongside Mister Coffey who had sat at the back for the whole of the race.

Tommie Beau moved to the front once again, with Mister Coffey now off the bridle in a race that looked to be over for him, Back On The Lash was being pushed along.

With five to go, Tommie Beau lead but drama struck as he went off the course between fence 29 and 30, due to a jockey error.

That mistake opened the race up completely with a three wide battle between Back On The Lash, Statuario and Sweet David as they headed to the final fence.

At the last, Sweet David jumped best and rallied on the stand side rail, easily going clear to the finish.

Remarkably, Mister Coffey had come from seemingly being out of the race and to finish second, staying on strongest of the rest to finish in second place.
