Louise Parker looks ahead to Varsity, with the win well in their sights

“This is my team. These are my people.” UoG Volleyball captain Louise Parker says the team is confident of taking back the Varsity title in the 2026 edition.

Varsity. The University of Gloucestershire vs the University of Worcester. In 2026, the UoG Volleyball team is looking to gain its revenge on its closest rivals.

In 2025, they came up short against UoW, losing 3-1, leaving a sour taste and much to be desired heading into the 2026 showdown.

After a year of change within the squad, it is only Varsity that remains. With preparations now underway, the countdown is on.

“As a team, we have had a few ups and downs this year. We had to say goodbye to a few players, and have shaken up the team to ensure we put our best foot forward going into Varsity.

“We’ve all worked really hard to get to where we are, and I can now confidently say, we are going to take the title of Varsity winner back!”

It’s often said that the mood of the squad is what dictates the overall performance, something that rings true about Parker and her teammates.

“Being a part of the Volleyball team doesn’t just mean having to work together as a team. For us, it means having a deep level of trust between us all.

“We have had some challenges, like facing some tough calls, but that just brings us closer. We all have a job to do, and we have to put an arm around one another to keep morale high.

“We are so close as a group, and I am proud to say that this is my team. These are my people.”

As preparations continue over the next month, Parker and her squad look to carry their BUCS form into the end of season showpiece.

“We’ve grown so much as a team since coming together in September. We’ve worked so hard, and that has paid off.

“I’m so proud of us, and the fact that we came away from the BUCS season with our first win in three-years.”

Parker and the rest of the squad will be hoping to continue their much improved form ahead of Varsity, which gets underway in 6 weeks. We wish them the best of luck!
