“I’ve got nine career promotions, hopefully we can get another one” Ex-Cheltenham Town Hero, Chris Hussey on Hednesford Ambition

Cheltenham Town promotion winner, Chris Hussey, is hoping to guide Hednesford Town to another league title this season. The 37-year-old defender stated that the club can “hopefully have another successful year.”

The Staffordshire club were promoted last season, and they’re currently joint top in the Northern Premier League, with a game in hand.

“We’re in a very good position this year, having achieved promotion last year. The club is making significant progress and it’s growing at, I would say, a rate of knots.”

Hussey has had an impressive career in the EFL, especially at Cheltenham Town where he was apart of the Robins team that won promotion to League One. His experience is something that is key to Hednesford’s success.

“You take bits and bobs from the successful teams you’ve been at. The experiences that I’ve been through, good and bad, I’m hoping to pass on and obviously continue to pass onto the lads as much as I possibly can.

“We all learn and we all share our experiences and we all want to drive each other, whether the experiences are good or bad.

“Knowing what good feels like is obviously paramount to a successful season.”

The Pitmen have invested heavily into the squad, but also into the squad, Hussey being a prime example of ambitious recruitment. They have also added ex-Robin, Liam Kinsella to their ranks, a move that showed the ambition of Craig and Amanda Gwilt.

“The owners have obviously invested quite significantly on the infostructure of the football club, which helped drive us forward on the pitch.

“You can see the progress on and off the pitch, it’s quite significant. You can see the advertising boards around the football club, and as the club continues to grow on the pitch, that side of the business will obviously significantly grow.”

The home of Hednesford Town, Key’s Park, has seen significant improvement, with a new pitch that has been installed, which cost an eye-watering £1.6 million.

“There’s no hiding from the fact that the club wants to climb up the football pyramid. With that financial backing that we have and the club that we’re at, obviously, comes pressure with that.

“Pressure is a privilege. I’ve been fortunate enough to be involved at big clubs and played in big games.”
