“It is going to be the mental will that is going to get us over the line” – Forest Green Rovers forward Tyrese Omotoye ahead of trip to MK Dons

Forest Green Rovers forward Tyrese Omotoye has suggested that “we are going to give it our all, regardless of the opposition” ahead of his side’s visit to MK Dons this weekend.

The 21-year-old grabbed the first goal against Scarborough Athletic in the Rovers’ emphatic 4-2 win in the FA Cup first round, on his goal he said: “You have to be alive in the box and luckily it has just fell to me and I am not going to turn that down.”

Of course, the game looked to be relatively comfortable to an overlooking eye, but Omotoye said: “Those games are never as easy as they look on paper. They are always up for it and obviously they (Scarborough) have been given a third chance to play against us. We knew it was coming, but I’m glad we got the job done and then we’ll take that momentum into Saturday.”

Tuesday’s goal was actually Omotoye’s sixth goal of the season, but he has actually only scored one goal in League Two, the other five in among the EFL Cup, the FA Cup and the EFL Trophy.

On the cup scoring record, Omotoye said: “I cannot put a finger on it, but I think it is just one of those things. It is just fate at the moment, but with time, I will look back on it and I am sure down the line when I have got a lot more league goals, it would just be a case of coincidence right now.”

The Rovers do make one of their shorter trips of the season tomorrow to Milton Keynes, Omotoye said on the Dons: “It is going to be the mental will that is going to get us over the line, so yes it is a very different game (to Scarborough) tactically, so we are going to give it our all, regardless of the opposition.”

Omotoye started alongside Callum Morton on Tuesday night, on his relationship with the on-loan striker, he said: “We have got a good relationship. I know where he likes to move and he knows where I like to move and I think we complement each other pretty well.”

It has to be said that the 21-year-old striker has been one of the very few players that have not been injured for the Rovers this season, on the striker’s injury record, he said: “I just feel like I have got a natural robustness but obviously I do not want to talk too soon, no one plans to get injured, but throughout my career I have not really had any injuries.”

Forest Green will of course be looking for their first ever win over MK Dons in all competitions, the two sides have met five times with the Dons winning four times and the Rovers picking up just a point.
