British Tennis legend Andy Murray hints at retirement and claims that he will “do his best in these last few months” after Dubai win

Andy Murray has said “I probably don’t have too long left but I’ll do as best as I can these last few months,” in a recent BBC Sport post match interview.

Murray exclaimed this after a hard fought two sets to one win over Canadian Denis Shapovalov at the ATP Dubai Tennis Championships.

Murray, 36, has had a rich history of struggling with injury through his tennis career and ever since his hip surgery in 2019, he’s never been the same player.

The Briton earned his second win of the 2024 season last night and also his 500th hard court victory, which is an achievement that further solidifies the ‘Legend’ status that lies on his name. He joins names like Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer on that list of the hard court win milestone.

As a former ATP Dubai Championship winner, the Scotsman had to come from behind in the match losing the first set 4-6, but coming back into it winning the second set in a 7-5 tiebreaker and the third set 6-3 in a horrible match in hot conditions in total lasting two hours and 33 minutes.

Murray seemed exhausted after the lengthy game and his words summed that up with his words, “I still love competing and still love the game but it gets harder and harder to compete the older you get, to keep your body fit and fresh.”

The Scot is through to the round of 16 and has been drawn against one of the defending champion Gael Monfils or French compatriot and fifth seed Ugo Humbert.
